Embarassing things these days...

Have you, my loyal readers, heard about the embarrassment on the USS Enterprise? The aircraft carrier? The story goes that two years ago the second-in-command made a derogatory, sexist video that was shown repeatedly on the ship's closed-circuit TV channel. That's kinda embarrassing.

Well, the second-in-command is now IN command, and what's more, the Enterprise is about to leave for a six-month deployment to the middle east. He's under review, but I don't think anyone who's been caught on tape making fun of his own enlisted persons should be leading a strike group.

The modern navy holds less fascination for me for several reasons (lack of sails...breeches...cannons...Nelson...), but living where I do, I can't help but feel pride and concern for the ships that come and go in Hampton Roads. It's just flat-out embarrassing, and I hope the Navy does the right thing and puts Captain Honors on time-out.

Yeah, and he did it all with no style at all. He should be busted a rank or two just for that. If you insist on being an schmuck, you should at least try to look good while you are doing it.

(By the way, I'm with you on the sails thing.)

One of the few things Stephen would talk of about his time on the Enterprise was how much he despised Honors, who had been second in command at the time. He ranted and raved so much when he learned about Honor's promotion. Perhaps this event is karma returned. I certainly hope this ass does get busted a rank to two.
